ABA Connections is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, dedicated, and reliable Senior Therapist Assistant to join our Clinical Team. The Senior Therapist Assistant provides clinical instruction and behaviour reduction protocols based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to children and youth accessing services at ABA Connections. 

 Senior Therapist Assistants are responsible for collecting skill acquisition data and behavioural data including cold probe, frequency/rate, manding, duration, ABC data etc. as well as completing session  notes, creating and managing client materials, conducting assessments, assisting with functional behaviour assessments under the guidance of the Clinical Team. 

Senior Therapist Assistants serve as the facilitator for the client team by providing effective communication between team members, leading regular team meetings, managing and disseminating client data, and ensuring all team members have the necessary support, training, and materials to ensure their clients and staff achieve their full potential. Senior Therapists are responsible for drawing upon their experience in the field to educate and train new staff on professional and clinical skills as well as client protocols.

Senior Therapists Assistants, under the supervision of members of the Clinical Team, will provide clinical input on client cases through the updating of client programs lists, clinical consultations, and data reviews. Senior Therapist Assistants may also be responsible at times for report writing, attending and/or facilitating parent meetings or parent trainings as well as assist in clinical decisions with approval of the Clinical Team.

Hours Per Week: 35-37.5 Hours per week, with possibility of occasional evenings and weekends

Job Description

Program Development and Implementation

  • Provide direct client care in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements.
  • Facilitate day-to-day operations of the team by ensuring that all necessary paperwork, materials, scheduling, and documentation are up to date.
  • Update and maintain data collection systems & disseminate information to team
  • Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols.
  • Follow and record data for prescribed toilet training protocols.
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior.
  • Use sound clinical judgement.
  • Assess skills, abilities, interests, strengths, and needs
  • Prepare written documentation regarding plans and progress as required.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
Supervision and Training Responsibilities 
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to staff regarding clinical and professional skills on a regular basis
  • Write and facilitate staff performance evaluations in collaboration with Clinical Supervisors and management
  • Provide supervision of staff performing 1:1 direct therapy with clients
  • Assist in the facilitation of staff meetings and staff evaluations
  • Participate in staff development and quality assurance
  • Ensuring the adherence to policies and procedure by all staff members
  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings and clinical meetings
  • Provide initial and ongoing staff education and training on client behavioural needs and professional skills
  • Ability to train staff and parents to fluency on various protocols and treatment techniques using verbal and written explanations, modeling, and guided practice
  • Conduct parent and caregiver training in line with client’s individualized treatment and behaviour reduction protocols
Collaboration, Consultation and Communication
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors and community members
  • Collaborate with other team members in the development of IBI/ABA programs and procedures
  • Maintain regular communications with parents and family members as required
  • Participate in scheduled team meetings and conferences as required
  • Present information (both written and oral) sensitively and effectively
  • Collaborate with Clinical Team regarding programming and child’s progress
  • Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding client progress as instructed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Senior Therapist
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between all members of the client’s team including staff, Behavior Analysts, parents, and outside health professionals
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct skill acquisition and behaviour reduction assessments under the supervision of a member of the Clinical Team
  • Assist in the development of individual treatment plans
  • Provide initial and ongoing staff education and training on client behavioural and professional skills on a regular basis
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to staff regarding clinical and professional skills on a regular basis
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between all members of the client’s team including staff, Behavior Analysts, parents, and outside health professionals
  • Facilitate day-to-day operations of the team by ensuring that all necessary paperwork, materials, scheduling, and documentation are up to date
  • Provide direct support or intervention for team members when dealing with clients and alleviate any crisis
  • Scheduling and assigning admin duties
  • Complete clinical consultations with clients under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Therapist
  • Assisting in the overseeing of client programming including analysis of data, making data driven program changes, writing and updating Individual Service Plans, attending/organizing team meetings, and working as part of a team including a Clinical Supervisor.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by a Senior Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Director, or Director of Client Services.
Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Adhere to privacy laws, including but not limited to, PIPEDA and PHIPA
 

Qualifications

Education
  • University Degree related to Behavioural Science, Psychology, or Early Childhood Development (required)
  • Possession or working towards BCBA or BCaBA certification (highly preferred)
Experience
  • Experience working with young children who have been diagnosed with Autism, Pervasive Development Disorder, experience working with children 
  • A minimum of 1 year experience as a Lead Therapist or within the field of ABA
  • A minimum of 2 years exemplary experience as a ABA Therapist/Instructor Therapist
  • Demonstrated experience applying the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) 
  • Experience in behavior management and modification techniques, specifically with children and youth

  • Valid First Aid/CPR Level C (required)
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector Police Check (required)
